In the first part of the workshop we will talk about one of Open Science requirements, Research Data Management (RDM): a range of activities and topics relating to the handling of digital research data. Here you will learn about best practices for collecting, organizing, documenting, publishing and archiving research data in digital systems according to the FAIR Principles. In the second part of the workshop, we shall focus on Open Access and the related services offered by the university. We will talk about current institutional agreements between the university and different publishers, e.g. the publish & read agreements with Elsevier, Wiley, and Springer Nature ("DEAL"). You will learn how they work and what other options you have for publishing your work in open access, e.g. with financial support through our OA Publication Fund. You will also gain insight into self-archiving (Green Open Access) and the options provided by our institutional repository bonndoc.

The term Research Data Management (RDM) refers to a range of activities and topics relating to the handling of digital research data. In this workshop, you will learn about the basics of RDM. Effective RDM is a crucial part of modern scientific practice. It involves organizing, storing, and preserving data collected during research projects to ensure data quality, security, accessibility, and compliance with legal and ethical standards. Proper RDM supports transparency, reproducibility, and long-term usability of research results, enabling researchers to collaborate more efficiently and build on existing knowledge. Except for microphone and webcam, no technical equipment or prior knowledge is required for this online workshop.

What is Open Access? What are predatory publishers/ journals/conferences and how to indentify and avoid them? In this interactive workshop, we will explore these and other aspects of open science. Der Workshop gibt Einblicke in die Möglichkeiten, Methoden und Arbeitsweisen der Digital Humanities. Dabei werden unter anderem folgende Fragen erörtert: Was meint Digital Humanities? Welche Möglichkeiten bieten die Digital Humanities möglicherweise für Ihre Arbeit? Könnten computergestützte Methoden Ihre Arbeit unterstützen und ggf. erleichtern sowie nachvollziehbar und reproduzierbar machen? Ein Teil des Workshops wird die praktische Anwendung verschiedener Tools beinhalten und ein erstes Arbeiten damit ermöglichen. Der Workshop findet online statt. Es wird daher empfohlen, zwei Bildschirme für den Workshop zu nutzen, um die praktische Anwendung zu erleichtern. Ever wondered what a DMP is and why care to write one? Ever been unable to open a file, find the most recent version of a file, or worse, lost an important file? Regardless if small or big and transdisciplinary, all projects can generate enough (digital) research data to become confusing and susceptible to loss. This workshop provides you with do’s, don‘ts & best practices that help keep your project data safe, secure and well organized until you are ready to share or reuse it. Start your next project or enhance your current one by introducing RDM to it!
