Research Data Service Center

The research data repositories bonndata & RADAR

The Research Data Service Center offers members of the University of Bonn the opportunity to professionally publish and archive research data with the bonndata and RADAR services.
With both bonndata and RADAR, you can store your research data securely or publish it in a citable and visible manner.

Both repositories meet the criteria of the FAIR principles for the re-use of research data, according to which stored data sets should be as findable (findable), accessible (accessible), usable (interoperable) and provided with clear terms of use (reusable).

Don't know which repository to use for what? You'll find a bonndata & RADAR comparison table and comprehensive summaries on Confluence.

bonndata is the institutional, cross-disciplinary research data repository for the publication of research data for all researchers at the University of Bonn. This data typically derives from completed academic/scientific studies and projects.

Publication of your research data in a repository like bonndata ensures the traceability, reproducibility and transparency of research results while heightening the visibility of research data through independent publication. Additionally, the published data can be used to address new research questions. With bonndata you can therefore share your data according to the FAIR principles. Your dataset will be a findable and citable publication. Access to the data can be restricted if necessary.

When a research dataset is published on bonndata, it is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). The dataset also gets a dedicated DataCite entry enabling it to be found worldwide. The research data can then be viewed by third parties, downloaded and reused in other contexts, depending on the granted terms of use.

bonndata is provided free of charge.

The ReseArch DAta Repository (RADAR) is a cross-disciplinary data archive for archiving  research data. This data typically derives from completed academic/scientific studies and projects.

At the University of Bonn, the service is primarily used for the non-public archival of research data. This means, that if your data is not supposed to be openly findable, you can archive it on RADAR. You can always grant access to your dataset on individual basis. Please bear in mind that RADAR can not be used for personal data, so such data must be anonymized prior to uploading on RADAR (please contact us if you need support).

For more information on RADAR and its costs please consult the dedicated webpage of the internal Confluence platform of the University of Bonn.
